Decalogue Luah Shana

The columns of Solomon’s Temple

The “Decalogue Luah Shana” watch is the third and final model in the “Decalogue” trilogy. In the “Decalogue” watch, the first model of the trilogy, Konstantin Chaykin emphasized the emotional perception of the night luminary, in the “Decalogue Rega” watch, the second model of the trilogy, he was fascinated by the traditional Jewish system of measuring time and its connection with astrology, the most precise ancient science, while the “Decalogue Luah Shana” watch is dedicated to the most practical traditional lunar calendar, the most ancient calendar system. It is from here that the watch got its name – “Luah Shana” in Hebrew means “calendar”, (literally “table”, “annual table”).

PRODUCTION

There is something special about watching the clock build. This is not just a mechanical process, but a real art, where the painstaking work of the master is combined with the precision of engineering thought. Assembling a watch is something that can fascinate, inspire, and give a sense of wonder.

CASE

In order to give the “Decalogue Luah Shana” watch a calendar function, Konstantin Chaykin modified the moonphase indicator from the calibre K.01-0, onto which he placed a date indication according to the traditional Jewish lunar calendar. Dates are counted according to the adopted system of alternating 29- and 30-day months. In the decorative design of the dial one can see the discernible contours of columns, symbolising the famous copper columns of the First Temple, Solomon’s Temple. A large moonphase indicator is decorated with a symbolic stylized image of Moses’ stone tablets.

Case dimensions: diameter 42 mm

MOVEMENT

The calibre K.01-0 of the “Decalogue Luah Shana” watch was developed by Konstantin Chaykin and is equipped with a reverse time indication system with anti-clockwise hand rotation. The movement was made entirely at the Konstantin Chaykin manufactory and is made according to the standards of haute horlogerie. Components finished using classical techniques: striped andperlage; fine longitudinal and circular grindings; manual chamfering, polishing; polished screw holes, pins and jewels; spherical polishing of the axel tips; and galvanized plating of rhodium and gilding. A distinctive feature of the movement is the use of four gold ouches, and placed on the back of the movement is a miniature golden figure of a heraldic lion, the symbol of Jerusalem, and a “Pacman” branded thermometer (a device developed by Konstantin Chaykin to fine tune the effective length of the spring).
